World Book Day 2012

World Book Day 2012

Today is World Book Day 2012 and this year not only is it possible for every child up to 18 years old to receive a free book token but over half a million around the world will take part in the first online children's book festival.

The festival is called "The Biggest Show on Earth" and is aimed to get as many people reading as possible.

Children's Laureate Julia Donaldson along with popular authors such as Jacqueline Wilson, Eoin Colfer, Cressida Cowell and Derek Landy will take part in the new festival which will be streamed live on the internet.

Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged his support and there will be local events held throughout the country from book swaps to audiences with authors, readings, parties, signings and even writing tutorials.

Check out the World Book Day website or your local schools and libraries for more information.
