Forrest J Ackerman passes away

It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the passing away of Sci Fi's number one fan, Forrest J Ackerman, writer, actor, editor and Science Fiction Fan.

Forrest died on the 4th December 2008 after battling a long illness, at the age of 92. He was an avid collector of science fiction material and coined the phrase "Sci Fi". Forrest was a key figure in Science fiction fandom and culture. He led a very full and rich career dedicated to science fiction including contributing to the first Science Fiction Fanzines, attending the first ever Science Fiction convention and wearing the first ever "Futuristicostume" and sparked fan costuming (yes it was his fault). He was friends with many of the greatest Science Fiction writers and is credited with finding Ray Bradbury. He will be missed.
