Abaddon Books
Abaddon Books began after the entertainment company Rebellion bought 2000 AD in the year 2000. They suddenly reaslised that they now had a publishing arm and thus Abaddon Books was born. Abaddon Books is dedicated to publishing the very best science-fiction, fantasy and horror novels and often create shared universes which their authors can base their stories on.
Their fiction tends to sway away from the shiny happy to a more gritty realism where the good guys don't always win and pretty much anything can happen (and often does).
The novel School's Out Forever by Scott K Andrews is a very good example of this. Set in the post-apocalyptic shared universe known as the Afterblight Chronicles, this omnibus won our "Book of the year" in 2012 for it's emotional attachment, incredible story and dark realism.
