Gerald Duckworth

While it might sound like a Coronation Street character, Gerald Duckworth was a publishing house, founded by it's namesake in 1898 and published Henry James' novel "In the Cage" the same year.

Published authors have included W. H. Hudson, Charles M. Doughty, D. H. Lawrence, Evelyn Waugh, Virginia Woolf, Beryl Bainbridge, Oliver Sacks and John Bayley.

Gerald Duckworth publishing remained independant but ceased trading in 2003 after struggling with cash flow, rising rental costs and an increasingly competative market.

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.
