The Spooks Mistake (called Wrath of the Bloodeye in the USA) is the fifth volume in the Wardstone Chronicles series of young adult fantasy books written by Joseph Delaney.
As the county becomes more and more dangerous, Tom is sent to study under another Spook called Bill Arkwright, far in the North of the country.
Learning with Arkwright is very different to what to is used to however, and his training methods harsh. He has however toughened up many apprentices in his haunted mill on the edge of a marsh.
The Fiend however has other ideas and sends the very dangerous Water Witch Morwena (his daughter) to destroy Tom. Arkwright makes an error in judgement and Tom finds himself all on his own attempting to face this terrible threat.
The Spooks mistake is set north of Caster (Lancaster) and also features Morecambe Bay and Cartmel.
As in his previous novels, Joseph has made a great novel in The Spooks Mistake. His ability to create a world in which good and evil are not so clear cut and distinct but just shades of grey is very impressive in a young adult novel, and his firm grasp of reality gives the fictional aspects much more depth.
